Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Today is the 12th Sunday after Pentecost.  The Lectionary Readings for today are:  Genesis 32:22-31; Psalm 17:1-7, 15; Romans 9:1-5; Matthew 14:13-21.  God’s blessing and provision for us are common threads in these Scriptures.  God’s blessing comes to those who cry aloud to God (Psalm 17:6); Jacob wrestles, and is rewarded with God’s blessing for his perseverance (Genesis 32:29).  The hungry will be fed, and the sick will be healed (Mathew 14:14, 19-20).  God’s blessing is so abundant that there is more than enough to go around.  In other words, with Christ the gifts of God’s grace are available to all.

As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God.  Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.  Stroke Assessment

Our church will be holding a stroke assessment from 9:00AM to 5:00PM this coming Thursday, August 7.

Do You Have Some Favorite Hymns? We will have another Hymn Sing Sunday on August 17.  Please give the title(s) of your favorite hymn(s) today if you’d like to sing them with the congregation.

Special Summer Music

Please notice the insert to sign up for Incarnation’s Summer Music Ministry.  Please share your talent with our congregation.  Only one more opening left to perform, which is for next week.  Thank you.

Summer Sunday SchoolChildren ages 3-10 will meet in the Kid’s Room after the Children’s Chat to be a part of a Super Hero Summer!  We still need people to volunteer to teach.  Please sign up on the bulletin board and see Carol Larson to choose your hero!

Summer Bible Study

For those who would like to learn more about the Bible and the Christian faith during the summer, please come to the church on Wednesday evenings at 7 o’clock.

Care of the Sick

There are times that the Church of the Incarnation Parish is unaware that one of its members may be ill at home or in the hospital.  It could happen especially during the summer.  If this applies to anyone in your family or circle of friends, and you would like them prayed for, visited, or to receive Holy Communion, please contact the church office at 847-956-1510, or call the pastor at 847-439-8717 (the parsonage) any time.

Have You Read The Upper Room Lately?

The reading for the last Friday, July 25, was written by Darilyn Dypold Allen.  Guess who this is!  Yes, she is Miriam’s daughter, and the content of the writing carries the very same message we heard last Sunday from Pastor Moon.

It’s Summertime Again and the Church Needs Your Help in Maintaining the Property.Just like around your house, there are lots of things growing in places where they aren’t wanted, and it takes a concerted effort to keep things under control. There is a separate list for lawn mowing (and several dedicated individuals who attend to this, although more are always welcome), but there are a lot of little tasks that would be easy for individuals or families to tackle.  Things like:  pulling weeds everywhere, edging around trees and bushes, maintaining the patio area, trimming tall grass that the mower can’t reach, staying ahead of the weeds in the playground, watering, maintaining the north-side entrance area, and picking up liter all around the property – just to name a few things.

Don’t feel like you need to ask permission either.  If you have the time, tools, and the inclination to help, just come on over and do what you can.  If, however, you would like some ideas, please contact the church office and someone from Trustees will contact you.

Just a little bit of effort from a lot of volunteers will make a big difference.

It’s Time for Lawn Mowing!

It is that beautiful time of year again, when everything blooms and the grass grows green.  Pick a week to ride the lawn mower around Incarnation’s beautiful grounds.  The sign up sheet is located on the bulletin board in the Narthex.  If you would like to take a turn and are unsure how to work the mower, one of the Trustees will help you.

A Message from Your Trustees

If you see something around church that may need some attention from the Trustees Committee, please fill out one of the Work Request forms kept in a folder outside the office and place it in the Trustees mailbox.  Please do this for both small maintenance tasks that can be addressed immediately and for large undertakings that can be discussed at the next Trustees’ meeting.

Incarnation Kids

It meets Sundays after the Children’s Chat.  They meet so that children ages 3-7 may have a chance to worship in their own style.
