Announcements and Events for the Week of April 27th
Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter.
Today’s lectionary readings are Acts 17:22-31; Psalm 66:8-20; Ephesians 4:25-5:2, and John 14:15-21. With the promise of the Counselor comes an abiding sense of God’s presence. Jesus has said that He will not leave us alone. His followers will know that as God is in Him, so will He dwell in them. And Ephesians/Christians being marked by the Holy Spirit are called to walk in the light of Christ as children of God, rather than following the world’s guidance.
As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God. Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.
Next Sunday, we will have a “Missions Sunday.” It will remind us of what we have been doing and what we need to continue to do for the community. We will also have a special guest speaker from Faith Community Homes.
The General Conference is now being held in Fort Worth, Texas and will be ended this Friday. Please read the special reports on this and pray for it. It is on the bulletin board.
Youth Movie Night! Coming Friday, May 9th.
Good Times, Food Sublime, Great MIMEs
A big THANKS to all who attended the Youth Dinner Theater in Fellowship Hall on April 12! Very special thanks to Carol Larson, who once again served up a “Yum-a-licious” multi-dish meal, this time a “Down Home Potluck”, featuring favorite recipes from Carol’s former home town near Zanesville, Ohio, where our youth will be heading for this year’s mission trip. There were even reports of people heading for the kitchen right after the program ended, hoping to corner Carol for the recipes!
A veteran, all-star cast of youth players directed by Kurt Peck entertained us once again, this time with a MIME version of “The Greatest Story Ever Told” (the entire Bible in 20 minutes or less), featuring Jordan DePerez, Kelsey and Nick Hartland, Cody Larson, Michelle Moon, Danny Moore, Heather Raus, Brandon Stone and Christine Szeremeta. We were even treated to an impromptu MIME by Danny Moore entitled “Goin Fishin’” (poor guy, they all got away!)…What a delight-filled evening!!!
Thanks, Kurt and to all of the youth who worked so hard to present the Bible in such a fun and fascinating format! “God Sightings” were everywhere. These “Incarnation Youth Players” get better every year, so don’t miss the “09 version” next spring!!
Thanks to the generosity of all who attended, this wonderful gathering and raised over $750 to support the travel expenses and partial registration fees of our campers, so again to all who were there… THANK YOU!!
For those who missed out and those wanting to see it again . . . On Sunday, June 1st, the youth will be performing an encore of “The Greatest Story Ever Told (or the Bible in 20 Minutes or Less)!” as part of the Worship Service. Given how hard the youth have worked on this show, it’s great to have another opportunity to present this innovative and family-friendly production. We hope it will not only entertain, but make the Bible a little more accessible to everyone.
It’s Time for Lawn Mowing to Begin!
It is that beautiful time of year again, when everything blooms and the grass grows green. Pick a week to ride the lawn mower around Incarnation’s beautiful grounds. The Green Sign-Up Sheet is located on the bulletin board across from the church office. If you would like to take a turn and are unsure how to work the mower, one of the Trustees will help you.
The Spring Work Day Has Been Rescheduled
This important day will now be on Saturday, May 17, from 8:00AM to Noon. More information will come later. Please contact Tom Rutenber or Gary Andersen if you are interested in helping.
New Metal Doors!
New doors have been installed on the North entrance and the Patio entrance. They lock and unlock differently than before, but use the same key as before. Please contact Pastor Moon, Tom Rutenber, Gary Andersen or Tami if you have any questions.
Adult Sunday School
During the month of April, we are reading some of the best-loved passages and some of the most troublesome passages in the Bible. Together we are attempting to wrestle the words into submission so that these scriptures can guide us in our daily lives. Join us at 8:45 a.m. in the library as Kathy Jacobs teaches from Favorite Bible Passages and Troublesome Bible Passages. Completely submissive cookies will complement the challenge.
Habitat For Humanity
The partnership’s next fundraiser is a matinee concert by the award-winning, 80-man chorus The New Tradition on Sunday, May 4, at 2:30 p.m.; make a day of it and join Habitat friends for dinner at a nearby restaurant at 5:30 p.m. after the concert. New Tradition will present “Feelin’ Groovy,” a concert of great songs of the 60s – Bridge over Troubled Waters, California Dreaming, Aquarius, Feelin’ Groovy and many others – at Glenbrook South High School in Northbrook. Tickets for both the concert and dinner are $50; either event separately is $25. Need information or reservations, call 847-934-1171 or call Connie Lee.
Safe Sanctuaries
In order to comply with the need to keep our children safe, we ask parents to accompany their children if the need arises for them to leave the morning worship. Thank you.
Bring In Your Used Ink Cartridges!
We have started another new box (green and white, located in the Narthex). We just received $25.75 for the second box of cartridges we have sent in! Good going! Please continue to bring your used cartridges in and help save them from overcrowding the landfills and Incarnation benefits as well!
Please only bring in the small ink jet cartridges. The church does not have the shipping materials to ship the large toner cartridges that are in the Narthex and the company we ship to does not work with those.
Have you ever tried praying early in the morning?
Please come this Saturday at 6 a.m. You will have a chance to experience His presence with you. It is a blessing!
The Men’s Group Meets Wednesday Mornings at 7:30AM for breakfast, discussion, and planning local mission work projects. This is not a Bible study, but a discussion group that promotes daily Christian living. Please come and join us. It is fun!
Thursday Evening Bible Study Meets at 7:30 p.m. On weeks when Ad Council meets, we will meet at 6:00 p.m. We will continue studying on the Fruit of the Spirit. The purpose of the study is to allow the Holy Spirit to use the Word of God to produce His fruit in our life.
Incarnation Kids
It meets Sundays after the Children’s Chat. They meet so that children ages 3-7 may have a chance to worship in their own style.
