Announcements and Events for the Week of April 6th
Friday, April 4th, 2008This is the 3rd Sunday of Easter Today’s lectionary readings are from Acts 2:14a, 36-41; Psalm 116; 1 Peter 1:17-23; Luke 24:13-35. Two men on the road to Emmaus encounter another who appears to be a stranger. They relate to Him what has happened, how Jesus was tried and sentenced to death. In response He tells them how it was necessary to accomplish what the Scriptures foretold. At the table that evening, His identity was revealed as He took bread and blessed it. The extent of God’s love becomes known each time bread is broken and shared.
Holy Communion is celebrated today as Christ requested, “Do this in remembrance of Me.” As on the first day of the week, the two disciples were joined by the risen Christ, so in the power of the Holy Spirit, the risen and ascended Christ joins us when we gather. In the United Methodist Churches, it is open to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ. Pastor Moon is also planning to offer Holy Communion every Sunday after the Sunday worship service in the sanctuary for those who want to have a holy meal. You are welcome to remain and participate.
Native American Ministries Sunday will be observed on April 20. Reverend Michelle Lacock will be our guest speaker for that special Sunday.
