Mission Sunday.  We give special thanks to Donna Anderson for today’s special message.  She’s been working for Faith Community Homes for many years.

As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God.  Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.

Next Sunday is The Day of Pentecost as well as Mother’s Day.  The Season after Pentecost in the Christian Year, called Ordinary Time, is a period of growth.  So the churches emphasize Jesus’ teachings about the

Kingdom of

God
during this season.

Announcements and Events for the Week of April 27th

April 27th, 2008

Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter.

Today’s lectionary readings are Acts 17:22-31; Psalm 66:8-20; Ephesians 4:25-5:2, and John 14:15-21.  With the promise of the Counselor comes an abiding sense of God’s presence.  Jesus has said that He will not leave us alone.  His followers will know that as God is in Him, so will He dwell in them.  And Ephesians/Christians being marked by the Holy Spirit are called to walk in the light of Christ as children of God, rather than following the world’s guidance.

As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God.  Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.

Next Sunday, we will have a “Missions Sunday.”  It will remind us of what we have been doing and what we need to continue to do for the community.  We will also have a special guest speaker from Faith Community Homes.

The General Conference is now being held in Fort Worth, Texas and will be ended this Friday.  Please read the special reports on this and pray for it.  It is on the bulletin board.

Youth Movie Night! Coming Friday, May 9th.

Good Times, Food Sublime, Great MIMEs

A big THANKS to all who attended the Youth Dinner Theater in Fellowship Hall on April 12!  Very special thanks to Carol Larson, who once again served up a “Yum-a-licious” multi-dish meal, this time a “Down Home Potluck”, featuring favorite recipes from Carol’s former home town near Zanesville, Ohio, where our youth will be heading for this year’s mission trip.  There were even  reports of people heading for the kitchen right after the program ended, hoping to corner Carol for the recipes!

A veteran, all-star cast of youth players directed by Kurt Peck entertained us once again, this time with a MIME version of “The Greatest Story Ever Told” (the entire Bible in 20 minutes or less), featuring Jordan DePerez, Kelsey and Nick Hartland, Cody Larson, Michelle Moon, Danny Moore, Heather Raus, Brandon Stone and Christine Szeremeta.  We were even treated to an impromptu MIME by Danny Moore entitled “Goin Fishin’” (poor guy, they all got away!)…What a delight-filled evening!!!

Thanks, Kurt and to all of the youth who worked so hard to present the Bible in such a fun and fascinating format!  “God Sightings” were everywhere.  These “Incarnation Youth Players” get better every year, so don’t miss the “09 version” next spring!!

Thanks to the generosity of all who attended, this wonderful gathering and raised over $750 to support the travel expenses and partial registration fees of our campers, so again to all who were there… THANK YOU!!

For those who missed out and those wanting to see it again . . . On Sunday, June 1st, the youth will be performing an encore of “The Greatest Story Ever Told (or the Bible in 20 Minutes or Less)!” as part of the Worship Service.  Given how hard the youth have worked on this show, it’s great to have another opportunity to present this innovative and family-friendly production.  We hope it will not only entertain, but make the Bible a little more accessible to everyone.

It’s Time for Lawn Mowing to Begin!

Announcements and Events for the Week of April 20th

April 21st, 2008

Today is the 5th Sunday of EasterToday’s lectionary readings are Acts 7:55-60; Psalm 31:1-5; Peter 2:2-10, and John 14:1-14.  Jesus says that He is “the way, and the truth, and the life.”  Service among others is the way He portrays.  These weeks following Easter are a great time to remind us Christians that God is continually at work in our midst and is ever building the character of the church and of the individuals who are followers of the Way.  God is continually at work, changing us, calling us to show “love in action.”

As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God.  Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.

Today, we observe Native American Ministries Sunday, which is one of the church-wide special Sundays with special offerings.  Our Northern Illinois Conference invests funds from this Special Sunday offering to develop and strengthen Native American ministries within the conference.  In addition, funds from this offering provide scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist and other approved schools of Theology.  We give special thanks to Reverend Dr. Michelle “Morning Star Spirit” Oberwise Lacock for today’s message and to Mr. William “Conquering Bear” Buchholtz for his music.  Reverend Lacock is actively involved at the American Indian Center as a member of the Board of Directors.

SPRING FLING IS TODAY!!  Come down to Fellowship Hall after worship, for this fun-filled auction and great food!!

The Newsletter Deadline is Friday, April 25.  Please have all articles in the church office by this date.  Thank you.

The General Conference will be held from April 23 to May 2 in Fort Worth, Texas .  Please read the special reports on this and pray for it.  It is on the bulletin board.

Announcements and Events for the Week of April 13th

April 14th, 2008

Today is the 4th Sunday of EasterToday’s lectionary readings are Acts 2:41-47; Psalm 23; 1 Peter 2:19-25, and John 10:1-10.  Jesus teaches His disciples what it means to be shepherd and sheep.  We rejoice that Jesus, our Shepherd calls us each by name and is the One who came that we may have abundant life (John 10:10b).  This abundant life is described in Acts.  As a result of fellowship, breaking bread together, prayer, attention to the apostles’ teachings, and sharing all things in common (Acts 2:42,44), how far we have moved from that early paradigm of selfless giving!

As announced, there will be Holy Communion every Sunday after Sunday service for those who missed the first Sunday’s Holy Communion and for those who want to have healing moments and special time with God.  Anyone is welcome to remain in the sanctuary and participate.

Next Sunday we will celebrate Native American Ministries Sunday, which is one of the church-wide special Sundays with special offerings.  Please refer to the bulletin insert for more detailed information.  Reverend Michelle Oberwise Lacock is the guest speaker for the day, who is an expert on this ministry.

Announcements and Events for the Week of April 6th

April 4th, 2008

This is the 3rd Sunday of Easter Today’s lectionary readings are from Acts 2:14a, 36-41; Psalm 116; 1 Peter 1:17-23; Luke 24:13-35. Two men on the road to Emmaus encounter another who appears to be a stranger. They relate to Him what has happened, how Jesus was tried and sentenced to death. In response He tells them how it was necessary to accomplish what the Scriptures foretold. At the table that evening, His identity was revealed as He took bread and blessed it. The extent of God’s love becomes known each time bread is broken and shared.

Holy Communion is celebrated today as Christ requested, “Do this in remembrance of Me.” As on the first day of the week, the two disciples were joined by the risen Christ, so in the power of the Holy Spirit, the risen and ascended Christ joins us when we gather. In the United Methodist Churches, it is open to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ. Pastor Moon is also planning to offer Holy Communion every Sunday after the Sunday worship service in the sanctuary for those who want to have a holy meal. You are welcome to remain and participate.

Native American Ministries Sunday will be observed on April 20. Reverend Michelle Lacock will be our guest speaker for that special Sunday.

Spring Fling - Incarnation Auction - April 20th

April 3rd, 2008

1. This year’s auction–SPRING FLING–is taking on an international flavor. For the
lunch we’re asking each family to bring a dish representing their heritage or a
country they are interested in. Choose to bring a salad, entree, side dish, or
dessert and indicate what country your recipe represents. Sign up on the
clipboard in the narthex on Sunday or call Penny Bailey at 255-8064.

2. There will be a children’s auction. Can any of us believe that Cody Larson, who
not too long ago was the poster child for Sunday School Students With Excess
Energy, is now one of our auctioneers?

3. This is the best: you can bid, and buy, and not pay…right then. You will be billed at a later (not too much later) date! We are such a 21st century church.

See you on April 20. No excuses. Sit with your friends and enjoy. Sit with your enemies and annoy. Spend. Feel good. Remember, You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure, “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 (New Living Translation)

Encouragingly,

March 22nd, 2008

Hopefully you are all finished digging out after yesterday’s snowfall! Tomorrow promises to be another crisp, cold day, but the Youth Group assures me that the 7am Sunrise Service will go on as planned. We hope to see you there!

Lenten Activities

March 21st, 2008

The first Holy Day celebrated by the Christian church was Easter–the day of Christ’s resurrection. The season of Lent is forty days, not including Sundays. Christ fasted in the wilderness forty days after his baptism. It was a time of prayerful preparation for the years of ministry that lay ahead for him. Lent is a time for us to prepare for the celebration of Easter. We hope you will join us during this journey.

Wednesday Lenten Services begin at 7:00 pm.

Palm Sunday - Join us for the procession of palms celebrating Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. Service begins at 10:15 am.

Holy Thursday - Join us for a Service of Holy Communion commemorating Jesus’ Last Supper beginning at 7:00 pm.

Good Friday - Join us for a Tenabrae Service beginning at 7:00 pm.

Easter Sunrise Service - This service, led by Incarnation’s youth, begins at 6:30 am.

Bunny Breakfast - Kick off the Easter celebration with breakfast prepared by Incarnation’s youth; 9:00 am

Easter Sunday Celebration Service begins at 10:15 am.
